Since its founding, the Disabled American Veterans has been dedicated
to a single purpose: building better lives for America's disabled veterans
and their families. Swanson-O'Connor Chapter #13 of the DAV strives
to fulfill that purpose in the Aberdeen area. For information on the
DAV, or to inquire about membership, please contact them at

or come to one of the meetings. These are held on the second Tuesday
of each month at 7:00pm at the VFW building in Aberdeen (821 Circle Drive,
behind the Auto Plaza).
The DAV van: Last year (2005) in South Dakota,
the Disabled American Veterans Transportation Program (commonly known as
the DAV Vans) transported veterans to over 20,00 appointments at VA hospitals,
while logging over three quarters of a million miles combined miles on the
road. This program, which was expanded nation wide in 1987, had its
start in South Dakota and continues to be one of the most public faces of
the DAV. Any veterans with an appointment at a VA or VA clinic may
contact
the transportation director in your area and ask to be given a ride.
Veterans are asked to either go to county court house or other designated
area for pick up. The same contact can also be used for any person wishing
to volunteer as a driver for the program.
